Beach Point Capital Management are a multi-billion dollar investment management company, specialising in credit related investments. They were looking to expand their London office by moving from their existing West End location, just round the corner to the newly refurbished 61 Curzon Street. They selected the 4th floor which had been fitted out to a CAT A standard with plenty of natural daylight from the windows on 3 sides of the space and an external balcony. work.place.create were appointed to design the new 2, 477 sq ft office space from RIBA stages 0-3 and were then retained by the client to oversee works through the construction phase until competition on site.
Although the office was fairly small, there were still some big challenges to overcome when designing the layout. The client required a number of cellular spaces, whilst the installed CAT A ceiling and M&E services were designed with an open plan layout in mind. We had to find the optimum layout that suited the client’s key adjacencies. The layout also took into account of some auto opening windows for smoke ventilation, meaning they couldn’t be enclosed within a room.
The final plan allowed for a reception and client waiting area directly in front of the lifts, a 10 person boardroom, a smaller 5 person meeting room and 4 private offices. The open plan area had space for 8 desks, with a breakout lounge area that would allow for future expansion to the number of desks. There was also a T point with high bar stools and tables located near to the external balcony. It was important to the client that all desks were sit-stand to align with their offering in other offices, including the private office furniture which was made bespoke to the project. The overall look and feel also had to reflect the business brand and philosophy, being smart and elegant without being too showy. We used a simple palette of American black walnut, with Carrera marble feature countertops to the T-point, reception desk and boardroom table with grey tones to the carpet and acoustic fabric walls. There was also a pop of colour in the open plan area with a brand colour blue wall to tie in with feature blue walls in their US offices.
The new office has enabled better connection between the reception and open plan areas, in a much brighter and more up to date space with integrated technology to facilitate the hosting of more meetings with their respective clients.
